Blast at an angel perpendicular to the grain. This will keep you from undercutting the area that is protected by the SandMask and not blasting into or underneath the area protected by SandMask. Blast in the direction of the grain so as not to "knock down" the grain. Keep the sandblasting nozzle moving continually to avoid "valleys or uneven background depths.
